Interwoven

Weeding the bamboo "forest" in my yard gives me time to simultaneously clear my mind and ponder deep questions, such as, "How did it get like this?" Or, "Wow, look at that!"  Or even, "How much do I want to prune the vines?"  They grow pretty flowers, but many people see them as invasive species.  For that matter, many people consider the bamboo itself to be an invasive species. I don't. Who am I to know whether or not these tall, stately stalks swaying in the breeze are here as an unwelcome aspect of climate change, or a beneficial presence  unknown to us yet? Looking up at the light reflecting off the leaves, and the way the bamboo leans, one trunk on another, I am reminded of an interlocking support system and also, of a holy community, a Holy Place called Nature. And I give wordless praise to its Creator, Yotzer B'reisheet, the Artist of the Creation, who calls each of us by name .
