According to the scholar, Rabbi Arthur Ocean Waskow, the event leading to the first humans being expelled from the Garden of Eden was not engaging in intimate relations. Instead, as he says in his new book, Dancing in God's Earthquake: The Coming Transformation of Religion, their mistake was in gobbling up the fruit, overusing the resources of the Garden (paraphrase). I had made this kippah and was trying to figure out what to name it. At first, I was toying with the idea of calling it by the name of one of our Mothers in the Torah, but after hearing Rabbi Waskow speak, I realized this headdress had to be called Eve! The sheer fullness and wild abandon of the leaf patterns and the "fruit" speak to a time when, as Rabbi Waskow imagines, we humans no longer "gobble up" Earth's abundance, or hoard its resources, but rejoice and share with our sisters and brothers in a new Garden of Eden.
