We  modern Jews wear fringes on the corner of our prayer shawls, but at one point in history, we wore long robes and the fringes were attached to its corners. Another translation  of fringe could be "tassel" or "flower head" as Jacob Milgrom notes* in Etz Hayim: Torah and Commentary. As an artist who is inspired by patterns in nature, especially by trees and flowers, this inspired me to make a  kippah with  several clay bead fringes dangling at the back. These beads were repurposed for the fringe kippah from a broken necklace, demonstrating that even something broken can be cherished!
