Shavuot: the "plus one" holiday (Updated 2022)

 So,by the time Shavuot, aka "weeks" rolls around,we will have been counting the Omer, the days between Pesach and Shavuot, for the past 49 days. We've tried to do self-improvement: to BE "plus one", ie, better than we are now, in order to be worthy of receiving the Torah. During the upcoming holiday of Shavuot,( Day 49 plus one) in addition to staying up all night and eating tons of cheesecake, drinking numerous cups of coffee and studying Torah, we read about Ruth and Naomi.Their relationship was so strong, that Ruth left her own birthplace and accompanied Naomi on her arduous journey back to her home, taking upon herself Naomi's religion,

" Wherever you go, there I will go; your people shall be my people, your God, my God."-Megillat Rut/The Book of Ruth

When Naomi and Ruth left Moab, they were journeying toward a new life.Naomi's guidance to Ruth (plus a heavy dose of Divine intervention ) led Ruth to glean in the fields of Boaz, whom she ended up marrying. This couple became the ancestors of King David, from whose line the Mashiach or Messianic Era will sprout.
