Dinah, daughter of Leah and Jacob, gets a bad rap in the Torah (at least, some commentators interpret her actions in a bad light). Another side of this story is brought through other points of view, and most beautifully,  in Anita Diamant's book, The Red Tent, which I read every year. I made two headress style kippot based upon the character of Dinah as described in that book. This one is made with gold wire and repurposed lapis lazuli beads. Tiny golden beads separate each blue bead, in a joyful parade around the perimeter. Lapis dangles (repurposed from a bracelet )adorn the front and back of the headpiece, while gold wire "waves" represent water: both  the water that "breaks" at birth (Dinah is described as a midwife in The Red Tent) and the Nile river, from which the descendants of Dinah's parents and aunts escape to freedom.

Remember Dinah!
